We love working with the team from HERO – they inspire us with their commitment to the success of young people in Lancashire, so when they asked us if we wanted to sponsor one of the categories for the annual HERO awards, we jumped at the chance to support the Social Enterprise of the Year award!
Una went along to the glamorous event held at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, to present the award!
There was a really high level of entrant this year and some incredible examples of Social Entrepreneurship. The well deserving winners this year, pictured here with Una are:
Watershed, from St George’s School, A Church of England Business and Enterprise College
Watershed is a student run café, set up almost 4 years ago, that now has its own purpose built premises within school, complete with comfy chairs and social area.
Not only is it a self-sustaining enterprise, but it also aims to raise money for chosen third world charities and supports enterprise growth across the school. The café uses fair trade products and milk sourced from local dairies, and the business plan for the future includes integration of school grown, cooked and packaged products, really capturing the imagination and embedding enterprise through the whole school.
The students are currently working towards a target to enable classrooms to be built in developing countries and based on the queues each day in the coffee shop, I am sure they will soon achieve it!
How cool is that? We hope you are as inspired as we are by this awesome team!!
